Asia Art Archive
A.M.M.A.A. was invited by the Asia Art Archive in December 2024 to organise 'Creative Explorations with Archives', an online session led by Noopur Desai and Samira Bose from Asia Art Archive in India. Through this online session, AMMAA intended to help the participants familiarize themselves with archiving as a medium of looking at their practice. The AAA team introduced the participants to their artist's collections and briefed them on how they as an organization approach an archive. They also provided references from their archive about different kinds of materials that one might come across in an artist's archive.
The idea of the session was to look at the other references, materials, and sources of provocation which are beyond the mere physical artwork but emphasize the lived experiences of the artists and emphasise how these experiences fed into the process of art making. This was conceptualised as an introductory session to the archives and was meant to help the participants get an understanding of an archive and think of ways of looking at their practice through a different perspective.
Kiran Nadar Museum of Art
A.M.M.A.A. was invited by the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art for hosting two modules, each a set of four workshops exploring intersections of motherhood, caregiving and art practice. The first module held in May 2025 was titled ‘Looking with Other (M)others: Self, Motherhood and Artmaking’ and included a set of five exercises, A Vocabulary of Motherhood (participants were asked to write down four words that resonate with their mothering experience, add it to a jar and were asked to randomly pick out any four chits and talk about words they felt connected with), Reference and Creation (participants were asked to select one image and one piece of text from the provided reference material and create a work of their own, bringing the two into a conversation with each other), Performing Motherhood (the participants were asked to bring objects from home that resonate with their mothering experience and worked in groups to depict chosen aspects of motherhood through movement and sound while incorporating these objects), Mothering in My Words : A Letter Writing Exercise (the participants were asked to write a letter addressed to any person of significance in relation to their mothering trajectory) and Imagine a Studio Space (artist-mothers were encouraged to think about studio spaces and art programmes that cater to their needs and limitations).
In the second module titled ‘Expressing Maternities : Exploring Identity Through Creation’, organised in June 2025, the first day followed the exercises of A Vocabulary of Motherhood and Mothering in My Words : A Letter Writing Exercise as in the first module. Day Two of the workshops included an exercise Visualising the Maternal Body in which participants engaged in sculpting, drawing or painting a body using preferred art materials and a reading circle. Day three consisted of an exercise titled Tracing Time : Mapping Motherhood and Artmaking in which the participants were given 3 sheets of paper with a weekly calendar plan and asked to dwell upon and create a routine thinking about their division of time and work before and after becoming a mother as well as an ideal structure for the future and a presentation of the artists’ individual works. On Day four the last exercise of the workshop was Flashpoints of Resistance in which participants were be asked to revisit an alienating or disturbing incident from their experience of motherhood which were captured in the form of a quote or phrase written on a flashcard to become a point of discussion and a presentation by A.M.M.A.A. about its work and activities.
